Rapper Face Off: 50 Cent vs Kanye West
This is a new section that I will post weekly called rapper face off. Here I will choose two rappers and decide who would win if they were to face off in a rap battle or engaged in a rap war. I will try to pick artists that are equally matched to make it interesting.
This week’s rappers will be 50 Cent and Kanye West. These rappers have already had some sort of beef on who could sell more records so lets see who’s better. First, I’ll look at each rapper’s strengths and weaknesses and then decide who the winner would be. Feel free to let me know what you think and why you agree or disagree.
50 Cent’s Strengths
50 Cent is not necessarily the most intellectual rapper but his flow is second to none. He has a very unique style that gets fans bobbin their heads and he can deliver with his lyrics. He can hit many topics and do a good job at it but he does lean more toward a “street” style.
I would have to say that between him and Kanye, 50 takes the street credibility. He has a crazy past that influences much of his music therefore you know he’s legit. He can rap about the hardships of life and paint a clear picture of what he’s talking about.
I would have to say that one of 50’s biggest weaknesses is his lack of ability to be intellectual. He can try but it’s obvious that it’s just not his style. He just seems too raw to be able to pull it off. Although he has changed due to fame, he still has that thug mentality in a way.
This may be a weakness but it shouldn’t affect 50 due to the fact that today’s mainstream rap hardly ever focuses on intellectual topics (a sad reality in today’s hip hop).
Kanye’s biggest strength would have to be his clever word play. He’s very good at making up rhymes that make you want to replay and listen again. I would want to add that he’s very original and if you listen to his music then you should know what I’m talking about.
He is definitely good at rapping about numerous topics and sounds legit while doing it. He can change his style to go with any beat so that’s a plus in his favor.
Unlike 50, Kanye doesn’t have much street credibility. I’m not saying this is a bad thing because an artist doesn’t have to come from the hood to be a good quality rapper.
The reason that this might be bad for him is because there are certain things that he can’t rap about and in this case 50 would have an advantage over him. Kanye is limited and has to rap about things that he can relate to unless he wants to be called fake.
And The Winner is…
In my opinion I believe that 50 would win a rap war. Now if we were talking about a rap battle then I wouldn’t be too sure who to go with. I think that 50 just brings more to the table and is better equipped to rap about any topic he chooses. He can rap about girls, money, and his hard past, where Kanye can only rap about the first two. I personally like 50’s style better and I listen to both of these rappers, so I would have to say the winner is 50 Cent. Let me know what you think.
